Abstract:

The continuum R+ modeling physical time, real or not, poses the same problems in the case of time as in the case of physical space discussed in the article 12 of this series. In the case of time, moreover, the continuous model of time makes impossible the solution of one of the oldest physical problems that remains unsolved: the problem of change (introduced in paper 1 and discussed in paper 6 of this series). The main objective of this article 12 is the discussion of the real or apparent nature of relativistic time deformations. Here, it is shown that, despite their experimental confirmations, relativistic time dilation and the local nature of relativistic simultaneity could only be apparent, not real, in the same way that all refractive deformations are apparent, no matter how many experiments confirm Snell's Law. The discrete and real nature of time, already demonstrated in previous articles of the series, not only indicates a path to the solution of the problem of change, it could also explain all the relativistic deformations of space and time.
